Visa Rules Change: Delays Arrival

28 August 2025

As posted previously, Chibuike’s scheduled visa interview in Abuja July 8 did not work out due to very last-minute changes in U.S. student visa processes. Attempts by the agent handling scheduling resulted in a September 9 date, much too late for the IUP report date of August 18 and the start of classes August 25. This date also won’t work because of another new regulation that allows students to enter the country within 90 days after the visa has been issued instead of what was 180 days. This means that his travel window would be dangerously narrow.

A  Forward Plan

Chibuike has requested and received a deferred enrollment for the IUP Spring Semester with a report date of January 12. Soon, he will return to MUSON School of Music in Lagos and has committed to seeing this as a new opportunity to advance his music studies and come to IUP in January, provided his visa is approved, with even more extensive knowledge and experience. He will hit the ground running with academic classes and Liberal Arts exposure that he would be unable to garner at MUSON.

We have been working to change his September 9 date to at least early October so his travel window to the U.S. is wider and more logical.  We are approaching this at two angles and appreciate your continued positive thoughts and prayers. (October 11 update: we feel an interview will be scheduled soon, but still uncertain when that will be.)

The Delay and Funding

This delay is an unavoidable setback to the original plans. We will continue to support Chibuike’s expenses while at MUSON but the change to a January U.S. arrival will deplete some funds intended for his travel and his start at IUP.

If you can provide additional support now, it would be so greatly appreciated.
