On March 31, on a beautiful Western Pennsylvania evening, dozens of friends supporting Chibuike Victor met at the charming home of Kay Smith for a special event benefiting Chibuike’s fund. Michael Kevin Jones, a world-touring cellist and the person who connected us with Chibuike over 18 months ago, also attended the event. Michael, originally from the UK and now living in Madrid, joined IUP keyboard professor Henry Wong Doe, also a world-touring musician, for a unique chamber music recital.
The evening included hors d’oeuvres prepared by heralded local chef James Rickard. We also shared a video message (below) from Chibuike, recorded in Lagos, Nigeria.
The funds raised made a significant dent in the balance still needed for Chibuike to start classes this August at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He was accepted to IUP on March 17, with a student visa interview now scheduled for July 8.
